As an athlete, you have to be coachable. The same applies to a public servant, wherever the duty needs you, you have to be flexible. When you’re in your comfort zone, you’re in a danger zone.
Tito Monzon was a dreamer as a kid: he dreamt of being an athlete and at the same time being a public servant. Despite facing rejection when he tried out for the first time for a volleyball varsity team in High School, he continued dreaming. Two years later, when he entered college at 16, he had grown to 5'11 and developed into a high leaper. From having zero knowledge of the game, he earned a spot on the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA's (UPHSD) volleyball varsity team.
Tito made the most of the opportunity, competing from 1993 to 1996 in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) volleyball tournament, and eventually rising to team captain in his final year. He also represented the national volleyball team internationally in tournaments like the Southeast Asian Games, where the Philippine team faced powerhouse countries like Australia and Greece.
As a student-athlete with a heart for public service, he took part in MILO-sponsored volleyball clinics as an assistant to the coaches. This is also where he shared the most important values that he calls “Three Ds”: discipline, determination, and dedication. These are the principles that shaped him as an athlete.
Around the same time, he began fulfilling his other dream. He became active in his barangay, serving as Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Chairman, where he began shaping his passion for public service.
Now a city administrator of Imus, he carries these same values into public service. Starting from SK Chairman, transitioning to legislative roles, and eventually leading as an executive secretary, councilor, and now city administrator—his journey reflects his adaptability and unwavering dedication to serving his community.
His passion for sports never really went away after college. Bringing his experience as part of the coaching staff of UPHSD and different teams at Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. and Fourbees Cavite Patriots Total Attackers, Tito continues to find a way to contribute to sports development.
Throughout his years as a public servant, he spearheaded the "Go for Gold" program in Imus, which provides athletes with training, coaching, and monthly allowances to help them be scouted by collegiate teams. This program also mirrors the MILO Best experience that inspired him and supports sports like basketball, volleyball, football, and track and field.
Building on the values that shaped him, he continues to fulfill a childhood dream of contributing to the field of sports, serving others, and helping the next generation of athletes realize their dreams as he did.
